POC and Magdeleine Vallieres turn a rainbow jersey year into a helmet

POC's limited-edition Cytal helmet with world champion Magdeleine Vallieres is a well-timed, personal piece of athlete marketing ahead of Worlds in Montréal.

POC has partnered with reigning UCI Road World Champion Magdeleine Vallieres on a limited-edition Cytal helmet that celebrates her rainbow jersey year and her Canadian roots. The EF Education–Oatly rider soloed to victory in Kigali, Rwanda, in September 2025, becoming the first Canadian elite road race world champion in the sport's 98-year history.

As BikeBiz reports, the design was created with Vallieres herself. It carries the fleur-de-lis and maple leaf, nods to corn and Canadian maple syrup, and her race mantra, "full commitment, no regrets". Congratulations to Vallieres and to Amber Stackhouse, POC's director of global sports marketing, and the team behind it.

When POC and I started creating a helmet design together, I knew immediately that I wanted my Canadian roots to shine through.

Timing that does a lot of the work

The smartest decision here is when it lands. The helmet arrives just ahead of the UCI Road World Championships returning to Montréal, Québec, in September. It is the first time the event has been held there in 52 years, and the first time in Vallieres' home province.

That gives POC a ready-made story with a clear audience. Canadian and Québécois fans have a home champion defending her title on home roads. Road cycling followers worldwide will be watching the rainbow jersey. The helmet sits right where that attention will be, and it will be seen on the champion's head during the biggest month of her year.

Co-creation, not just a logo swap

Plenty of signature products feel like a colourway with a name attached. This one has specifics. The fleur-de-lis and maple leaf speak to place. Maple syrup and corn add warmth and a bit of humour. The mantra gives it a voice. Vallieres is clear that she wanted her roots to come through, and that personal ownership is what makes the product credible to fans.

Stackhouse's comments frame the partnership around Vallieres' character as much as her result, describing her as selfless, hard-working, humble and fun. That is a sensible choice. A world title is a moment; a personality is something fans can connect with long after the race.

Product still front and centre

The story does not lose the helmet underneath. The Cytal draws on development work from the Cytal Carbon, with a variable-density EPS liner, Venturi-based ventilation, an integrated wing, Mips Air Node technology, an adjustable fit system and an eye garage for sunglasses. Limited-edition storytelling earns attention; the technical detail gives buyers a reason to follow through. Regional pricing across the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand also signals that this is meant for a global audience, not just the home crowd.

What other brands can take from it

  • Build campaigns around the calendar. Major events create predictable spikes in interest. Plan launches, search coverage and paid media to meet that demand rather than chase it afterwards.
  • Let athletes shape the product. Genuine co-creation gives social and content teams real stories to tell, from design references to the meaning behind them.
  • Lead with personality. Results get headlines, but character gives fans something to share. Brief creative around who the athlete is.
  • Keep the specs close. Emotional storytelling works best when the product detail is easy to find on product pages, in retail training and in ad copy.
  • Give retailers a hook. A limited edition tied to a live event is a natural prompt for in-store displays, local rides and community content, especially in markets close to the action.
  • Think locally and globally at once. Heritage-led design can resonate strongly at home while still travelling well with a wider audience.

For bike shops and brands we work with, moments like this are a reminder that the best athlete partnerships are planned well ahead of the event they are built around.

Well done to Vallieres and POC. With Worlds in Montréal approaching, the timing could hardly be better.
